Sunset Bioluminescence Tour by Boat

At sunset, this tour leaves from the little beach next to the ferry dock in Paquera. When the nights falls you will be able to see the plankton glow in the dark. For more then a full hour you will be able to see this natural phenomenon and be enchanted how fish light up their path in the water or when you take a swim or move your hands through it. Bioluminescence is found in many parts of the world, however in most locations it is either seasonal or requires perfect conditions in order to occur.

This tour runs in the Santa Teresa area. Liberia International Airport (LIR) is the usual arrival point for Guanacaste.

The sea is calmest from about May to November, when winds drop to their lightest of the year. The Papagayo winds blow mainly from December to April and can leave the water choppier, so morning departures are usually the smoothest ride and the best snorkelling visibility.
